Drug Bust 100 Arrested - About 100 arrested in Connecticut-focused drug bust, About 100 people were arrested Wednesday in a crackdown on two criminal gangs that authorities said trafficked heroin and cocaine from the Dominican Republican and Puerto Rico into southeastern Connecticut.

More than 700 law enforcement officers from federal and state agencies made arrests in Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Puerto Rico, officials said. More than a dozen law-enforcement agencies were involved.

"The defendants arrested today were responsible for a very large percentage of the heroin and cocaine available for street sale in New London County," federal prosecutor David Fein said.

The arrests were the outcome of a 15-month investigation led by the federal prosecutor's office in Connecticut and a unit of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Authorities said they seized drugs, weapons, cash and vehicles. Those arrested were transported to U.S. District Court in New Haven, Connecticut. Most face charges that carry mandatory minimum prison terms of five to 10 years.

  1. It's about time the police go after the gangs. Get rid of the gangs, and you will get rid of most of the crime, and violence.
