Garisoppa Silver Sunken WWII

Garisoppa Silver Sunken WWII - A Florida company says it has found sunken treasure worth an astounding amount of money. Odyssey Marine says it has located a World War II era ship that may have almost a quarter of a billion dollars worth of silver on board. It sits nearly three miles under water, deeper than the wreck of the Titanic.

The S.S. Garisoppa has been at it’s resting place on the sea floor for 70 years. SS Gairsoppa silver,

Mark Gordon is the president of Tampa based Odyssey Marine and was on board an Odyssey vessel when they found the wreck of the Garisoppa. SS Gairsoppa 48 tons of silver,

“And when the shipwreck comes into view for the first time and you are some of the people to see this in over 70 years, it’s pretty amazing,” he says. $38 million Gairsoppa,

The Garisoppa does not hold the same place in history that the Titanic holds, but it is of interest to Odyssey Marine and the British government.

“It was a cargo ship, it was carrying lots of interesting things of, most interest to us and probably our shareholders, it was carrying a lot of silver, potentially seven million ounces of silver,” Gordon says.

Seven million ounces of silver worth an estimated $220-million. greatest missing treasures,

Odyssey found the Garisoppa with the help of records kept by the German U-boat crew that sank it.

“Germans being meticulous record keepers really worked to our advantage in this case because, the U-boat actually recorded the precise location that they had targeted and sunk this ship and we found it not too far away from where they had reported the data,” Gordon says.

The cargo doors of the ship were blown off when it sank.

Odyssey was able to fly a remotely operated vehicle into the cargo hold and see crates of tea that were on the ships manifest.

They believe under the tea lies the silver.

“So we’re hoping we’ll be able to get in and neatly move the tea chests and pick up the silver bars,” Gordon says.

Odyssey has an agreement with the British government to split the treasure when it’s recovered.

Amazingly, even though it’s three miles under water, odyssey believes they can recover the silver with less than 90 days of work.

Odyssey Marine says the shipwreck is located off the coast of Ireland and is in international waters.

Their agreement with Britain allows odyssey to keep 80% percent of the treasure.

The British government and the insurance company that handled the claim in 1941 will get the remaining 20% of the treasure.

Delta has taken immediate action with our in-flight caterer at Amsterdam to ensure the safety and quality of the food we provide onboard our aircraft," the airline said in a written statement.

The sandwiches were made in the Amsterdam kitchen of catering company Gate Gourmet, and were to be served to business class passengers on Delta flights.

Gate Gourmet spokeswoman Christina Ulosevich said the company has gotten no reports of similar incidents on any of the other airlines it serves out of Amsterdam. She said the company did not yet know how the needles got into the sandwiches.

Angers Crown Jewels

Angers Crown Jewels - French city demands English crown jewels over 1499 execution. A petition by the French city of Angers, located in the Loire Valley west of Paris, is demanding that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth turn over the British Crown Jewels as compensation for what it is calling a “state crime” that took place 513 years ago and ended the reign of the Plantagenet bloodline.

Angers was once the capital of the Anjou province and home to the House of the Plantagenets, a royal bloodline that produced such famous monarchs as Richard the Lionheart and Henry V. British Royal family worth £44 billion,

What is the “state crime” city officials are stating happened that would warrant the Queen of England’s Crown Jewels? The beheading of Edward Plantaganet, Earl of Warwick, on November 28, 1499, reports The Globe and Mail.

Edward Plantagenet was the nephew of King Richard III and his cousin, Edward of Middleham, was the royal heir. After his father was executed for treason and his cousin died of natural causes, the Earl of Warwick became the last legitimate male of the line, naming him heir to the throne at 10 years old. That designation was revoked upon the death of his aunt, Queen Anne. UK royals cost taxpayers $80M,

Tudor Henry VII took the throne after slaying King Richard at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 and imprisoned the Earl of Warwick in the Tower of London. In 1499, in an attempt to rid himself of any rivals for the throne, Henry VII had the last Plantagenet beheaded, thus ending the royal bloodline. British royal family,

The petition by city officials, signed by hundreds of Angevins and sympathizers from around the world, believes it is entitled to compensation and asks for the Crown Jewels:

”Today, the legacy of Plantagenet must return to his heirs and the Crown Jewels of England should be transferred to the Angevins….

As compensation for the dispossession of the rights of the Angevin dynasty and the political assassination of its last direct descendant, the signatories of this petition demand that the United Kingdom defer to the Angevins, moral heirs of the Plantagenets, the entirety of the Crown Jewels of England… The Jewels, after their release, shall be deposited in the Saint-Aubin in Angers to be seen and kept by the population.”

Theme Park Discounts Women Miniskirts

Theme Park Discounts Women Miniskirts - A combination theme park, resort and golf club in southern China has sparked controversy with its offer of discounted admission to women wearing miniskirts, reports Shanghai Daily. The Guilin Merryland Resort in Guangxi has promised half-price entry to women whose skirts measure 38 cm or less, according to Shanghaiist. Women with rulers ensured proper skirt length, and, no, shorts and dresses don’t count.

“The stipulation aims to encourage female visitors to showcase their beauty in summer,” Li Wenxing, deputy manager of the park, told Shanghai Daily. park china miniskirt half price entry,

Coincidentally (or not) a water-splashing festival is taking place at the park during the mini-skirt campaign.

Not surprisingly, as the paper reports, locals are a bit hot and bothered by the promotion, with residents believing it encourages bad behavior and vulgarity all in the name of making money.

This isn’t the first time a Chinese event attracted women with unique discounts. Last year, virgins were offered free entry into the Zhouluo Wild Osmanthus Fragrans Festival. 15 inch mini skirt,

Park China Miniskirt Half Price Entry - A PARK in southern China is offering half-price entry to women wearing skirts shorter than 38 centimeters – an offer that has infuriated local residents. The Guilin Merryland Resort in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is holding a “Love Miniskirts” campaign over the next two months.

Footage aired on the local TV station showed female visitors in miniskirts lining up at the entrance to the park while female staff measured their skirts with rulers. 15 inch mini skirt,

Only miniskirts are eligible to qualify for the lower ticket price of 55 yuan (US$8.62). There’s no discount for women in shorts or dresses, the park said on its microblog yesterday. Theme park discounts women miniskirts,

“The stipulation aims to encourage female visitors to showcase their beauty in summer,” said Li Wenxing, deputy manager of the park, one of the country’s major tourist attractions.

Li said the activity had been held annually since 2007 and had been a great success. Visitor numbers, both men and women, soared during the campaign, he said.

The park also holds a water-splashing festival during the campaign where visitors can throw water over each other, including the miniskirted women. That attracted even more visitors, Li said.

But many Guilin residents have criticized the campaign as vulgar and catering to people’s lowest tastes in a bid to make money.

A resident surnamed Yao said the park was encouraging women to behave erotically to attract visitors.

Others wondered if the park would be offering free entrance if the women wore much less, or nothing at all.

“We have been hearing negative comments about the campaign since we launched it, but their numbers are decreasing every year,” Li said.

Zhuang Zhiming, a lawyer with Jiangsu Fazhize Law Firm, said: “I don’t encourage this kind of activity, nor do I oppose it because it violates no laws or rules.”

San Francisco To Pay Panhandlers $75/Week

San Francisco To Pay Panhandlers $75/Week - A creative proposal to find homes for needy dogs is facing some strong opposition from an unlikely source, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Beginning in August, the city is set to offer panhandlers up to $75 a week to stop begging and foster problem puppies from city animal shelters until the pups are ready for adoption.

The pilot program is called Wonderful Opportunities for Occupants and Fidos, or WOOF. It’s believed to be the first of its kind in the country. The program will pair ten dogs with people living in city housing, allowing the dogs to be socialized. San Francisco panhandling puppies, PETA Bribes San Francisco to End Puppy Panhandling Program,

But PETA claims that the program would put the animals at risk. They issued a statement which read, in part:

“The city is in essence experimenting with the lives of homeless animals and people. Many chronic panhandlers battle with addiction and mental health issues; dogs won’t be able to tell us if they were harshly scolded, randomly screamed at, smacked, scruffed, locked in a bathroom or closet, or otherwise mistreated.”

Center For HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI)

Center For HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI) - A large federal grant awarded to Duke University will fund a highly focused program to discover how to induce the precise immune factors needed for effective vaccines against HIV. Barton Haynes, M.D., will be the Duke director of the seven-year grant for the Duke Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology-Immunogen Discovery (CHAVI-ID).

Haynes previously led the original Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI) consortium, the grant for which just ended in June 2012. Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI),

“Duke is deeply honored to be selected again, as we now build on all the progress made in the initial CHAVI grant and now focus the effort on design of immunogens capable of preventing HIV transmission and protecting people worldwide,” said Victor J. NIAID originally established CHAVI in response to recommendations of the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise, a virtual consortium endorsed by world leaders at a G-8 summit in June 2004.

Hanes Professor of Medicine and Immunology. “The CHAVI-Immunogen Discovery grant will be used to learn how to do what we need to do.”

The CHAVI-ID grant now will focus on projects that are critical to creating the most effective vaccines for prevention, Haynes said.

Charlie Sheen and USO Donation

Charlie Sheen and USO Donation - The "Anger Management" star announced Monday that he will donate $1 million to the United Service Organizations (USO), which will go toward an entertainment facility for injured troops in Bethesda, Md.

The donation will mark the largest single contribution from an individual in the organization's history. Charlie Sheen and USO Donation,

"It's an honor for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us," Sheen said of the donation. "They put their lives on the line for us every day, and I'm just happy that my work on 'Anger Management' can bring a little bit of relief to the troops and their families."

The actor has pledged to donate 1 percent of the profits from his FX comedy "Anger Management" to the USO, with a guaranteed $1 million minimum.

The first installment of $250,000 will be donated in a private ceremony next week.

"The USO would like to thank Charlie Sheen for his very generous $1 million donation to our Operation Enduring Care Campaign and his interest in helping us lift the spirits of those who have endured so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy daily," Gen. John I. Pray Jr., executive vice president and joint chief of staff for the U.S. Air Force, said of the donation. "His support is greatly appreciated, especially from our wounded warriors and their families."

The actor has been making efforts to harness his star power for philanthropic ends recently. Last week, Sheen entertained "American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe's suggestion that he should become a judge on the singing competition, noting that he'd be up for it on the conditions that a) FX gave him the green light and b) "Idol" makes a significant donation to charity.

"If the numbers move the needle and 'Idol' matches 20 percent of my weekly salary for Autism Speaks, [the diabetes charity] JDRF, and the Boys and Girls Club ... then the hell with it. As we say, pour the smoke," told TMZ.

Last October, Forbes named Sheen the highest-paid actor on TV, noting that he'd raked in $40 million between May 2010 and May 2011.

Best And Worst Paying Jobs

Best And Worst Paying Jobs - People’s career choices should be based on passion over paychecks-and that’s especially true for those who are educating America’s youth. But even if you’re pursuing a profession in education for the all right reasons-a desire to enrich the lives of students, you value the intangible rewards, you strive to give back to society and make a difference, etc.-you still have to wonder which are the highest- and lowest-paying positions in the field. And that’s not a bad thing, says Beverly Hardcastle Stanford, professor emeritus at Azusa Pacific University and co-author of Becoming a Teacher.

“People planning to go into education shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting to know which jobs or which states pay the best, because it is important to know that” she says. “But they should never base their decision to pursue, or not to pursue a job in education on the money. You need a better reason, like because you love kids and you want to make a difference in their lives. Those who work doing something they find meaningful get much more satisfaction than those who work for money. Teachers can change lives and it can be extremely rewarding.”

Forbes sifted through the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates to find the very best- and worst-paying education jobs in America. The BLS survey, which reflects May 2011 salary and employment data, calculates annual pay by multiplying an hourly mean wage by a “year-round, full-time” 2,080 hours. For those occupations where there is not an hourly mean wage published, the annual wage has been directly calculated from the reported survey data. These estimates are calculated with data collected from employers in all industry sectors for over 800 occupations.

We looked at the wage estimates for all 61 jobs in the Education, Training, and Library Occupations group to determine the highest- and lowest-paying positions.

It turns out most of the well-paying positions are postsecondary teaching jobs, for which a master’s degree or PhD is usually required. The lower-paying jobs tend to include those involving younger children or positions outside of the classroom. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t rewarding.

Colorado Dentist And HIV Risk

Colorado Dentist And HIV Risk - A Colorado dentist and oral surgeon put his patients at risk for contracting HIV and hepatitis due to unsafe injection practices, and state officials are set to notify patients who saw Dr. Stephen Stein over a 12-year period to inform them of their risk.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment stressed that “there have been no infections linked” to the offices of Dr. Stein, who practiced oral surgery in Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Denver.

The state said patients who received IV medications, including sedation, at Dr. Stein’s offices “may have been exposed to HIV, hepatitis B and/or hepatitits C.”

State officials learned of the HIV risk the dentist may have exposed his patients to following a report of unsafe injection practices at his offices.

“Upon investigation, it was determined syringes and needles used to inject medications through patients’ IV lines were saved and used again to inject medications through other patients’ IV lines,” the agency said in a statement. “This practice has been known to transmit infections.”

Anthony Kiedis Talks About Cher

Anthony Kiedis Talks About Cher - Rocker ANTHONY KIEDIS has constantly been the envy of his pals – because he once shared a bed with CHER when he was just a teenager. The RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS star got to know the BELIEVE singer during his school years, because his father’s ex-girlfriend went out with Cher’s former partner SONNY BONO.

He explains, “I was 13 or 14 and Sonny and my father’s girlfriend CONNIE went out for the night.

“Cher was staying home and they asked her if she would watch me for the night. She said, ‘Yeah, he can stay in bed and you guys get home at three in the morning, come pick him up and take him away.’

“So I was laying there in the bed, I was like, ‘This is very wonderful ’cause I like this woman and she’s beautiful and she’s older and I’m young,’ and I’m just starting to have these feelings.

“She goes into the bathroom to change and the door kind of goes open. I’m going, ‘Okay, I can see her now. She’s undressing.’ She undressed and I was just there being very elated by the experience. She put on her nightie and she came to bed and we had a little chat.”

Kobe Talks Retirement

Kobe Talks Retirement - The thought first hit Kobe Bryant when the Lakers lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2008 NBA Finals — maybe Shaquille O’Neal was right. “I thought maybe I can’t win a title without Shaq. I thought that is my one opportunity and I blew it,” Bryant said. The Lakers’ Kobe Bryant talks in an interview with Yahoo!Sports’ Graham Bensinger.

History and Bryant, of course, proved Shaq wrong as the Lakers won two titles without the Big Diesel. But that is just one topic Bryant touches on in a wide-ranging interview with Yahoo!Sports’ Graham Bensinger.

Bryant said that the Celtics not only provided him with one of his lowest moments, but also one of the greatest in his 17-year career. Of all the games he has played since joining the NBA at age 17, rallying from a 15-point deficit in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals to win his fifth championship remains his greatest highlight.

“That was the hardest one,” Bryant said, pointing out that the victory came against four future Hall-of-Famers.

Bryant also reflected on the effects the dismissed sexual assault charges had on him in 2002. He said facing criminal charges changed his outlook on himself and what’s really important in life.

“That’s real pressure,” he said. “That’s life pressure. That’s not a game-winning shot where if you make it, you win and if you don’t you don’t. That (facing possible jail time) is real pressure. ”

Bryant, 34, also held fast to a comment he made during his first NBA season when he said that at age 35 he would be retired and “relaxing with his family overseas.”

“That’s still probably accurate. I don’t know if I will play longer than that,” he told Bensinger, adding that there are several things he can no longer do at his age.

“I don’t have the same motor,” he said.
