It is not just a nasty celebrity couples break-up rumor started by the National Enquirer. DWTS first transgendered competitor has officially confirmed to ABC News that he and his long time girlfriend have "officially" split. According to the mainstream media website, "Chaz Bono and his fiancée, Jennifer Elia, have jointly announced that they have called off their engagement and are no longer a couple."
The celebrity couple's rep said, "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection towards one another. No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time..." leaving their LGBT friendly supporters wondering what the heck was really meant by their oddly worded statement.
Chaz is the son of Cher, formerly known as the Hollywood icon's daughter Chastity. As the daughter of Sonny and Cher, she grew up with enormous pressure to be like her celebrity mother. However, with the short height of her famous father and a weight issue, she never quite measured up to society's standards of natural beauty as a woman.
With encouragement from her celebrity dad (long before his death) to be true to herself, she says she embraced her true self. Electing to have a partial gender re-assignment surgery, she has been undergoing hormone therapy to change her appearance to that of a man.
Once she had a double mastectomy to remove her breasts and had plastic surgeons re-shape her chest to look like that of a man, she legally changed her name and gender. Finally, she began to look comfortable in her own skin -- now that hers became his.
As for amplifying celebrity gossip, the press was not guilty of talking too much about the celebrity couple that they themselves did not ask of them. "Bono proposed to Elia atop Seattle's space needle earlier this year. The proposal was featured during "Being Chaz," an hour-long special on Oprah Winfrey's OWN that aired in November..." writes ABC News.
"Bono's relationship with Elia [was also] featured heavily in "Becoming Chaz," the documentary about his transition from female to male that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and aired on OWN..." the website said.
Chaz Bono was also prominently featured on the ABC reality television show Dancing With The Stars. He appeared on the show as a competitor during Season 13 (which aired in 2011).
The news of the celebrity split was confirmed in the days leading up to Christmas. The National Enquirer leaked the news days earlier.
Are the celebrity couple both angry at entertainment news writers, bloggers, and television broadcasters for treating them like star celebs? Whatever the case, it is Chaz himself who has been coming across as being the one who gets "amped" about things. His lovely ex-girlfriend always seemed to be the calm one in their romantic relationship.
