Takeru Kobayashi Ate 58 Johnsonville Brats in 10 Minutes - Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, Takeru Kobayashi Ate 58 Johnsonville Brats in 10 Minutes, Japan's Takeru Kobayashi is one of the most recognizable sports icons of the 21st century after winning the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest six years in a row. It was considered his contest until Joey Chestnut came along and won in 2007 to end his run. Kobayashi became the current Major League Eating record holder for brats on Aug. 5, 2006.


On July 4, 2011, Kobayashi scarfed down enough hot dogs in a simulcast event that beat Joey Chestnut's record. Since it wasn't under the Major League Eating banner, Chestnut's record still stands.
