John Wayne Bobbitt Wrote An Autobiography 2012 - She tried to kill me. She almost killed me. I think she wanted me to hurt as much as she was hurting.'Editor’s note: Trial Rewind is HLNTV's bi-weekly series where we catch up with key players in trials that captivated America.

John Wayne Bobbitt got national attention in 1993 when his then-wife, Lorena Bobbitt, cut off his penis, which was then surgically re-attached. He was put on trial for marital rape, but was acquitted. Lorena Bobbitt was found not guilty of maliciously wounding her husband due to temporary insanity. Here, Bobbitt talks with In Session's Graham Winch about the incident that changed his life......hlntv.

Q: Can you describe what happened that night in 1993?

A: My best friend came to Virginia to stay with me from New York. The day after he got there, we went out and I showed him around the Washington, D.C. area and we went to a couple of night clubs and we were driving back home and we stopped at Denny’s to eat breakfast and we went home. He went to sleep on the couch. I went to go lay down and (Lorena) was there. She was supposed to be moving out, but she was still there. It was a long day and a long night so we were pretty exhausted. I fell asleep and next thing I knew I woke up and I was in a lot of pain, terrified really that I was bleeding to death. I was panicked, I was confused. I was in a terrifying state.

Q: When did you realize that this was going to make national news?

A: It didn’t really hit me until I was in the hospital and I was going through recovery and there was an entertainment attorney who showed up. I realized there were a lot of people outside the hospital, reporters, stuff like that. At that point, I was kind of confused. I was a young kid at the time. I was only 25 years old. I didn’t know it was going to go this far.

Q: Do you keep in contact with your ex-wife Lorena?

A: Nope, I don’t talk to her at all really. She tried to kill me. She almost killed me. I think she wanted me to hurt as much as she was hurting.

Q: Do you think your situation brought spousal abuse into the national spotlight?

A: Our relationship was never really physical. It was more about self-centeredness. It was emotional, not physical. There were times where we were at each other. We would fight and argue about ridiculous stuff. I look back at the way we were. We weren’t ready to be married and couldn’t handle the relationship we were in.

Q: What have you been up to since the trial? I understand you did a couple of pornographic movies.

A: I got involved in adult films. I met some people. Aaron Gordon, Jack Gordon were my managers back then. We went to a Playboy Wet and Wild party. Jack Gordon was married to Latoya Jackson at the time. And she was doing Playboy video and she did, like, five covers of Playboy. I was hanging around in that element, in that kind of world where you are exposed to adult entertainment. And it got to where I met some people. I met Ron Jeremy. And he suggested I do a cameo appearance and then it went from cameo appearance to a whole adult movie. It was huge! It was pretty huge. A lot of media, a lot of coverage. It was difficult to do. To go from the kind of person I was to acting in front of the camera, it took a lot out of me.

Q: Did you do something with ultimate fighting?

A: I made a few appearances. I think I was supposed to do some boxing with Fox Networks. That was a while ago … I was supposed to fight (Joey) Buttafuoco. I was training with a trainer and getting all ready. But, I couldn’t do it because I got arrested.

Q: What were you arrested for?

A: Probation violation. I was on probation. I was in violation. A clothing thing I got involved with. I met some girls at a store and they gave me clothes. And apparently they were giving clothes to a lot of people.

Q: I understand you are writing a book right now. What is that about?

A: I can’t really tell what it’s about. It’s in the works. It won’t be out until around December. I’ll send out a press release when it’s done.

Q: Is it an autobiography?

A: It’s an autobiography, true crime. I’ve got a writer working on it, an editor, publishing, got a bunch of people working on it. It’s half-way done right now. It’s going to be really interesting. This guy is a really good writer. I’ve read some of the material he has written and it’s really good. This guy really knows how to write. I’m not much of a reader, but from what I read, it had me in tears.

Q: You have an interesting story. Is there anything else you want people to know?

A: There’s a lot of evil out there. People have got to be aware that you can never be too cautious….You can be in a relationship, and you have to heed the warning signs. I didn’t know them. When I was with Lorena, there were warning signs, but I didn’t know what the warning signs were.
